Jagged Truths

Written by Gabriella Troy – Instagram: @gabriellatroy

Honesty is a windmill

at the top of a hill.

It takes every

breath to keep spinning,

to continue its vicious cycle

cutting into hearts

and laying bare all the words better left

I thought honesty meant my heart

could meet yours

through an open window,

but all it left was splinters

every step we tried to take.

Honesty shouldn’t feel like the bitterness

of lies and deception.

It shouldn’t act like the bittersweet

denial of responsibility.

Why does it sound like a bitter

Now, if I’m being honest,

maybe I should’ve admitted

that too much was wrong

both on your part and mine,

and I could’ve saved myself

from losing the truth of

who I was
