OPEN: Writers
Prose Writer / Poet / Personal Essay Writer
All of Outlander’s staff writers contribute at least 2 pieces/month for their column. They work closely with our staff editors to revise and make their work the best it can be!
Though we prefer our writers to have prior writing experience, our applications are open for writers at any point in their writing journey. All we ask is that our writers are open to receiving feedback from the editing team.
OPEN: Graphic Designers/Layout Editors
Graphic designers and layout editors are responsible for creating the visuals for Outlander. Graphic designers focus mainly on social media graphics whereas layout editors are primarily slated to work on Outlander’s seasonal issues.
While no prior publication experience is necessary, it’s always a plus. Graphic designers and layout editors should have experience using Canva, PicsArt, or another editing software.
OPEN: Discord/Engagement Manager + Mods
This is a new role for our team! We have a Discord server right now, but require someone with a bit more time and experience to help us get it off the ground. Some responsibilities of this position might include hosting writing sprints for an hour a week, sending daily or weekly Questions of the Day to start conversations, broadcasting Outlander-related announcements in the corresponding channel, and working with the EIC and social media team to come up with new initiatives and mini-events to keep the community engaged. The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about keeping Outlander’s Discord alive and eventually helping the team be able to open this community to the public!
Experience is always a plus, though we mostly just ask for a dedication to helping Outlander grow.
OPEN: Social Media Manager
Outlander’s social media manager is in charge of posting on Outlander’s Instagram/Twitter and engaging with other zines within the online community. They will also brainstorm creative ways for the Outlander team to interact with its audience through social media.
Experience is always a plus, though we mostly just ask for a dedication to helping Outlander grow.
OPEN: Editors
Poetry Editor
Editors work with writers to improve their work. They will work directly with staff writers for their submission and indirectly with writers who submit via public submissions.
Editors should have experience with writing in their selected category and/or editing for a publication. They also should be familiar with Google Docs (especially the comment/suggestion features) and have basic knowledge of Google Sheets.
